Sony has confirmed the launch date for its next big flagship phone, the Xperia 1 VI, almost a month before the announcement date of May 17. This launch coincides with Sony’s Xperia 1 V launch on May 11, last year.

Xperia 1 VI

While the poster does not explicitly state which phone(s) will be introduced on that occasion, it is almost certain that it will be the Xperia 1 VI, given recent leaks surrounding this device and Sony’s usual timeframe for releasing these phones.

Sony is expected to abandon its flagship’s 4K screen resolution, which was widely regarded as excessive for a smartphone.

The iconic narrow and tall 21:9 aspect ratio is also being phased out in favour of the more mainstream 19.5:9 aspect ratio, which brings it in line with other flagship phones on the market.

Xperia 1 VI’s rear Camera

According to recent rumours, the Xperia 1 VI’s rear camera setup will be similar to that of the Xperia 1 V, with enhancements primarily driven by software processing, most likely enhanced using AI features that have recently become popular in the industry.

Other AI features, such as custom wallpapers and AI image editing, may also be included, as are those offered by competitors.

In terms of specifications, the Xperia 1 VI will most likely be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, along with at least 12 GB of RAM.

It’s unclear whether the Xperia 1 VI will be the only smartphone on display at this event, or if others will join it. More should be revealed in the coming weeks.
