With the exception of a few sensitive places, mobile internet connection has been restored by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), but Pakistani consumers are still unable to access social media platforms like Twitter and YouTube.
The information was provided by a PTA representative, who told a blogging website that while some social media sites are still prohibited, users should be allowed to access WhatsApp.
According to the spokeswoman, PTA has not yet received any directives from the Interior Ministry on the reactivation of social media platforms.
In some critical places around the nation, mobile internet is still completely prohibited, they added.
Blockage of Social Media Platforms
Shortly after Imran Khan, the former prime minister, was detained, the applications were stopped at the Ministry of Home Affairs’ request.
Following the arrest, all mobile internet services were totally stopped, while most fixed broadband internet services—with the exception of social media platforms—continued to function.
A decision to lift the prohibition will soon be made, according to the PTA official, after guidance from the federal government.
The PTA stated that no orders have yet been received on the internet shutdown on Tuesday regarding the potential closing of data services in the near future.
