Singapore’s police announced that after more than five years of limited experiments, the city-state will “progressively deploy” more patrol robots across the city.
To “augment frontline police officers in conducting premises patrol,” the Singapore Police Force (SPF) announced in April that robots would be stationed in Terminal 4 of Changi Airport.
The city of 5.6 million people will see further rollouts as it uses technology to compensate for its low population and birth rates.
“The SPF plans to progressively deploy more patrol robots to augment police’s operations across Singapore,” the SPF stated in a statement.
Singapore will use high tech police robots
Cameras, sensors, speakers, a screen, blinkers, and a siren are just some of the features found on these robots.
Using an extendable mast equipped with a 360-degree camera, cops in a situation room can see what’s happening on the ground and communicate with the public in real time.
The police have indicated that the patrol robot is the latest technology advancement available to them since it can conduct autonomous patrols and provide them a better overall image of the situation, allowing them to make more informed decisions and have a more intuitive understanding of what’s going on.
The robot can “enforce a cordon or warn bystanders during an incident prior to the arrival” of human police by using its lights, siren, and speakers.’
