Sindh Launches Online App to Guide Couples on Family Planning

The Sindh Population Welfare Department has taken a major step toward improving reproductive health by launching a new mobile app. This digital tool provides free and private counseling for couples about family planning and contraception. With around 3.6 million abortions reported yearly in Pakistan, the app aims to raise awareness and reduce health risks through professional guidance and easy access to trusted information.

A Safe Platform for Couples Seeking Guidance

Many couples hesitate to visit family planning centers due to social pressure or privacy concerns. This app serves as a safe and supportive platform for them. It offers personalized advice from qualified doctors and counselors while keeping the user’s identity confidential. Through the app, couples can get clear information on modern birth control methods and solutions for family planning complications.

Collaboration with Health Organizations

According to Sindh Population Welfare Secretary Hafeezullah Abbasi, the app was developed with support from the World Bank and Pathfinder International. Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho approved the project, which is now running a six-month pilot phase. The collaboration ensures the app meets both medical and data safety standards before its full launch across the province.

Data Security and Confidentiality Assured

Officials have emphasized that user data will be handled with great care. Personal and medical details will remain secure under strict digital protection systems. The collected information will also help the department improve its electronic monitoring network. This data will allow the government to assess progress in family planning programs and make better policy decisions for public welfare.

Easy Access to Nearby Clinics

The new app will also make it simpler for users to find nearby family planning centers. By sharing their location, couples can view clinic details such as available services, operating hours, and doctor profiles. This digital feature reduces the need for unnecessary visits and helps people reach the right service more efficiently, saving both time and effort.

Educational Resources and Offline Use

In addition to consultation services, the app provides educational materials on short-term and long-term contraceptive options. It also offers a list of frequently asked questions and a helpline for quick assistance. The app has been designed to work even without an internet connection, ensuring people in rural or remote areas can still access vital family planning information.
