Due to the impending Very Severe Cyclonic System (VSCS) Biparjoy, the Sindh government has decided to cancel all examinations beginning tomorrow (Wednesday). On Thursday, the cyclone is expected to make landfall between Karachi and Gujarat, India.

Sindh govt. cancel all exams

Abid Qamar Shaikh, Karachi’s Assistant Commissioner, issued a notification stating that all examinations, education seminars, summer camps, and education-related activities should be cancelled or rescheduled beginning June 14, 2023, until the storm passes. This measure is intended to protect human lives while also minimizing public inconvenience.

The cyclone is expected to hit the coastal areas of Karachi Division, bringing heavy rain and storms to the city, according to the notification.

The cyclone has moved further north-northwestward over the northeast Arabian Sea in the last six hours, according to the latest Pakistan Meteorologist Department (PMD) advisory.

Biparjoy is currently located approximately 410 kilometers south of Karachi and 400 kilometers south of Thatta, near Latitude 21.2°N and Longitude 66.6°E.

According to the Met Office, the maximum sustained surface winds around the center of the cyclone are between 150 and 160 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 180 kilometers per hour. The sea conditions near the system’s core are described as spectacular, with a maximum wave height of 30 feet.

The cancellation of examinations and educational activities is a precautionary measure taken by the Sindh government to protect students, teachers, and the general public. Authorities are working hard to reduce the risks associated with the cyclone and the bad weather it may bring.

Officials will closely monitor the situation and issue additional updates and instructions as needed. To stay safe during this period of expected severe weather, residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow the guidance of local authorities.

Students and educational institutions are encouraged to follow official channels for updates on exam rescheduling and the resumption of educational activities once the cyclone has passed and conditions have improved.
