Since 2022, the electricity cost has risen by 80 percent.

Electricity power tariffs have increased by as much as 80% in the previous year and a half, and consumers across the country have expressed dismay and anger as a result.

A national daily reports that the power tariff has increased by Rs. 15.41 since 2022, with taxes on commercial and domestic consumers of 78% and over 50%, respectively.

The electricity cost has immensly increased

The per-unit rate for non-protected residential customers increased from Rs. 10.91 to Rs. 24.39 (or 80 percent) over the previous year. When the numbers are broken down even further, it becomes clear that costs for up to 200 units have grown by 60%. The price of one last year, which was Rs. 18.95, is now Rs. 30.86.

In addition, the electricity rate for households using 300 units has increased from Rs. 22.14 per unit to Rs. 35.04. The price of electricity for households using 400 units has risen by Rs. 14.41, to a total of Rs. 39.94 per unit.

Customers reporting usage of 500 units or more saw a price increase of Rs. 15.41 per unit over the course of a year and a half. Customers using 700 or more units in a billing cycle will now be charged a much higher rate of Rs. 50.63 per unit for the same service.
