On Wednesday, the Senate Standing Committee on Finance notified that non-filers will subject to severe consequences, such as their gas and electricity connections will cut off and having their SIM cards blocked.

Blockage of Mobile SIM Cards of Non-Filers

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana told the committee during the meeting, chaired by Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, that the FBR had data on 2.5 million non-filers, including data on 1 million large non-filers.

Tiwana notified the committee that non-filers will face severe consequences, such as their gas and electricity disconnected and their SIM cards blocked.

The chairman threatened to take legal action if tax returns will not file within 30 days of being sent a notice.

Number of Filers and Non-Filers in Pakistan

According to the chairman, notices have sent to non-filers and FBR has received data about them from third parties and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

He also stated that home addresses and records of property investment remain collected.

According to the FBR chairman, the organization wants to reach 7 million filers this year.

He stated that 10.15 million people in the nation are registered taxpayers, both business owners and members of the salaried class.

Only 5.3 million of them, nevertheless, actually file tax returns.
