Shab-e-Meraj

The Sindh Government, through its Education Department, has officially announced a holiday on the occasion of Shab-e-Meraj. According to the notification, Saturday, 17 January 2026, will be observed as a holiday for all public and private educational institutions across Sindh. As a result, academic activities will remain suspended on this day.

Institutions Covered Under the Holiday

This holiday applies specifically to schools, colleges, and universities, including both government and private institutions operating in Sindh. It is important to note that this is not a general public holiday.

Religious Significance of Shab-e-Meraj

Shab-e-Meraj holds great importance in Islam as it marks the miraculous journey of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, known as Isra and Miraj. During this sacred night, the Prophet ﷺ traveled from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem and then ascended to the heavens, where the obligation of five daily prayers was bestowed upon the Muslim Ummah.

Observance and Worship

Muslims observe Shab-e-Meraj with deep respect and devotion. Many people engage in prayers, supplications, recitation of the Holy Quran, and voluntary acts of worship. Mosques often arrange special gatherings, sermons, and religious programs to commemorate this blessed night.
