It appears that the small console craze isn’t going away anytime soon. Sega has revealed a follow-up to their tiny Mega Drive (also known as the Sega Genesis), which will have both cartridge games and Mega CD add-on titles. Silpheed, Shining Force CD, Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Virtua Racing, and Shining in the Darkness are among the 50 titles that will be included in the compact system.
Unfortunately, the gadget has only been revealed for Japan as of now; it will be available on October 27th for 9,980 yen (about $75).
Following the huge success of the NES micro in 2016, little vintage consoles became all the rage a few years ago.
Following that, Nintendo released a little SNES, while Sony released a less-than-stellar remake of the original PlayStation. While Sega was a little late to the party, it did produce the finest micro system to date in 2019 with the Mega Drive / Genesis.
These games make up just 11 of the “over 50” games included with the Mega Drive Mini 2, which may delight aficionados given how obscure many of the games are.
The presenters also made a point of mentioning that Sonic CD comes with both an American and a Japanese soundtrack, which might be a minor clue that the Mega Drive Mini 2, like the first, would be available globally, although with different games.
