After a gap of more than two years, the boundaries erected around the holy site have been dismantled, allowing pilgrims to touch the Holy Kaaba once more.
In order to maintain social distance between pilgrims and stop the spread of Covid-19, barriers were placed around the house of Allah in March 2020.
Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, the head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, made the decision to resume normal operations on Tuesday.
The development occurs after the end of Hajj 2022 and as the new Umrah season has begun.
Al-Sudais commended the Saudi government for taking action to ensure that visitors to the Grand Mosque may carry out their rituals in a secure setting.
In accordance with the instructions of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he added, the presidency was collaborating closely with all sectors functioning in the Grand Mosque to welcome pilgrims and offer the essential amenities.
According to the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, preparations for early service delivery in accordance with plans for crowd control had begun, and the Grand Mosque had been made ready to accommodate Umrah pilgrims.
