Zurich's Swiss Re Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award goes to Streamline

At the 6th Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award Ceremony, held in Zurich earlier this month, the Ugandan health technology business Streamline took home the Swiss Re Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award.

The Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award honors business endeavors that use creative strategies to create resilient communities and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

The award ceremony’s subject for this year was “Improving Financial Access to Healthcare.” The prize received more than 264 applicants from 81 different countries, but only 3 were chosen as winners, splitting a grant from the Swiss Re Foundation for USD$700,000 (about UGX2, 693,007,800).

Streamline was declared the overall victor and given USD$350,000 (approx. UGX1, 346,503,900).

The jury noted that “What stood out for us as the jury, was the clarity with which Samuel was able to demonstrate the benefit of the Streamline business and how that benefit delivered improved health care at the community hospitals, making the community hospitals more sustainable,”

People from all across the world participated in choosing the winner of the People’s Choice Award by casting votes for the enterprise they thought should receive the Resilience Award. The People’s Choice Award 2022 went to NucleusIs (from Nigeria), who garnered a total of 200,000 public votes.

Dubai-based Democrance finished third. Each of NucleusIs and Democrance received US$175000 (approx. UGX673,251,950). The three businesses also received non-monetary contributions from Swiss Re staff in the form of mentoring and technical help in addition to the cash awards.

To resurrect rural health insurance, Streamline makes use of technology, trustworthy healthcare professionals, and community engagement. The platform is used by healthcare providers to administer schemes, manage premiums, copayments, claims to process, and reporting. This enables rapid, precise tracking of schemes’ surpluses or deficits.
