Researchers warn of Android phone security flow caused due to a chip features of quick charging or noise cancellation. The digital signal processor is like a “complete computer in a single chip,” this feature helps in charing android phone within minutes
According to Slava Makkaveev, these processors are gateways for attackers to control over Android devices. Makkaveev found the issue in the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. found more than 400 vulnerabilities in the devices. Hence due to Android phone security flow, a potential hacker can hack data, including photos, videos, and location information from the phone
These vulnerabilities could also permit a malicious app to record calls and turn on a device’s microphone without the user’s permission. Researchers have also found vulnerabilities; letting a malicious app to brick devices and hide other malware on phones.
Qualcomm has acknowledged the vulnerabilities and released warnings about the flaws. “We worked diligently to validate the issue and make appropriate mitigations available” to phone makers. And we have not found any evidence that the problem was now being exploited by hackers. “We encourage end-users to update their devices as patches become available. And install applications from trusted sources like Google Play Store,” Qualcomm said.
A spokesman for Google, which makes the Android OS, mentioned questions to Qualcomm for comment.
Technical details on Digital signal processors are often locked down by the makers due to security reasons. The lockdown of Technical details of the chip can benefit the makers but also a concern if security researchers aren’t able to test them for flaws.
