Toni Kroos, a Real Madrid player, announced his departure from professional football on Tuesday at the age of 34. His amazing career will come to conclusion once he plays Germany in the Euros this summer.

The German midfielder disclosed his choice in an emotional Instagram post, bringing an end to a dazzling 10-year career.

It was rumoured earlier this month that Kroos was nearing signing a contract extension with Real Madrid, which might kept him at the Santiago Bernabeu for the 2024-25 season.

The Qualities

The 34-year-old was known for his precise passing, vision, and cool attitude on the game. He started his professional career with Bayern Munich, where he won three Bundesliga titles and the UEFA Champions League.

21 trophies for Madrid

Kroos has won 21 big trophies for Real Madrid since coming from Bayern Munich in 2014, including four Champions Leagues and four La Liga crowns.

“I’ve always said I wanted to retire here and this is what will happen. I never wanted another club”.

“I could play some years more but I didn’t want to be on the bench, I want to enjoy, remember me like this, this player”.Kroos stated.

“Am convinced that it is the correct decision. Wanted to end it in the best way possible and this season is one of the best I have played”.

“My goal was to finish in the best way, this season has been one of my best. I want you to remember me as I am now”. he concluded in his Instagram post.

He also had a great international career with the German national team, winning 106 games and playing key parts in their 2014 World Cup victory and many European Championship victories.

His last appearance for Germany came at the 2022 World Cup.

Real Madrid president

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez also thanked the player and referred to him as one of the club’s greatest players, saying, “Toni Kroos is one of the greatest players in the history of Real Madrid and that this club is and always will be his home”.
