Rawalpindi safe city project gets Rs 1.3 bn from Punjab Gov

The provincial government of Punjab plans to finish the Rawalpindi Safe City Project within a year and has allocated about Rs. 1.3 billion toward that end. This groundbreaking Safe City effort in Punjab will reportedly use locally built software and imported fiber connections to connect the project to Murree, as stated by a senior unidentified official involved in the project.

More than a thousand high-definition cameras will be installed and connected to the Safe City Authority’s main command center as part of this project. Over a thousand sites have been selected by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to guarantee the success of the project.

Rawalpindi will get better cameras

These HD cameras will significantly improve citywide security when installed in key locations like busy markets, mosques, business centers, major highways, entry and exit points, airports, railway stations, bus terminals, district and high courts, important bridges, water bodies, major educational institutions, police stations, the central jail, shopping centers, petrol stations, banks, and other notable structures.

The official elaborated that different colors will be assigned to different cameras so that they could be easily identified. The district administration will work with IESCO, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, water supply agencies, and technical staff to ensure that the fiber cables for the cameras are installed correctly.

The Rawalpindi Safe City project will deploy HD cameras, infrared sensors, and wireless connectivity where appropriate. With the help of Google’s services, we’ll be able to save the footage from these cameras in three distinct phases.

The official highlighted the many benefits of the Rawalpindi Safe City initiative, including enhanced security, crime prevention, law and order maintenance, disaster response, streamlined traffic management, and increased protection for citizens against suspicious activities.

In addition, the Safe City initiative will be linked to Lahore’s traffic enforcement system, allowing for the distribution of electronic challans to those who break the law on the roads.
