The Punjab government is reportedly one step away from regularizing thousands of contractual teachers working in schools and colleges across the province.
The announcement followed the first meeting of the provincial government’s Special Ministerial Committee. Basharat Raja, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, presided over the meeting.
The forum approved the recommendation to regularize 14,055 contract teachers in government-run schools and colleges, according to details. The provincial cabinet’s approval is now the only thing that remains.
The meeting was also attended by Minister Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayoun Sarfraz, Minister Schools Education Dr. Murad Raas, President Secondary School Educators Regularization Movement (SSERM) Muhammad Sarfraz, SSERM Convener Muhammad Imran, and SSERM General Secretary Rana Liaquat Ali.
Dr. Murad lamented during the meeting that these teachers had been working on a contractual basis for more than a decade and that previous provincial governments had done nothing to help them.
SSERM representatives, on the other hand, praised the provincial government and thanked Chief Minister (CM) Punjab, Pervaiz Elahi, for taking their long-standing demand into account.

The incumbent Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, announced a salary increase for government teachers in Punjab today.
Murad Raas, the Punjab Education Minister, has submitted a summary to the CM Office for approval in order to regularise thousands of Punjab Government Teachers.
Following a discussion with Education Minister Murad Raas, CM Punjab has also announced that the Punjab government will raise teacher salaries.
The CM has announced a 5000 allowance for government teachers called the School Reforms Allowance.
According to CM Punjab Office sources, the CM has agreed to approve the summary to regularize contract teachers SSEs and AEOs.
