The Punjab government has decided to set up Anti-Drone Units in all districts of the province to strengthen security and counter unauthorized drone activities. This initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety and monitoring aerial threats effectively.
Structure and Leadership of Units
Each district will have its own Anti-Drone Unit, operating under the supervision of the District Police Officer (DPO). These units will use modern anti-drone systems to detect and neutralize drones that may be operated for illegal or hostile purposes.
Advanced Technology for Drone Control
The units will be equipped with jamming systems and other technological tools to ensure drones operating without permission can be quickly identified and stopped. This will help law enforcement prevent any potential misuse of drones.
Section 144 and Public Restrictions
To complement this initiative, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144, restricting the outdoor operation of drones by the general public. This ensures that drones cannot be flown in sensitive areas, while law enforcement and intelligence agencies remain exempt for operational purposes.
Enhancing Aerial Surveillance
The Anti-Drone Units will also conduct regular aerial surveillance to monitor security hotspots. Their deployment is part of a broader plan to improve law and order and prevent any incidents that may threaten public safety.
Pre-Emptive Security Measures
The Punjab government emphasized the importance of proactive security measures. By establishing these units, authorities aim to prevent drone-related incidents before they occur rather than merely reacting to them.
Coordination and Implementation
The initiative reflects close coordination between provincial authorities and district police departments. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to modernizing security infrastructure and addressing the challenges posed by unmanned aerial vehicles.
