PTA in Pakistan conducted an independent Quality of Service (QoS) survey. This survey took place in the first quarter of 2024. They assessed cellular operators’ performance.

The assessment followed the Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service Regulations 2021.

The survey covered 2,270 km of travel for each operator. PTA conducted the survey over 60 days. They aimed to cover the most areas in the surveyed cities.

PTA performed 0.25 million mobile broadband tests. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority also conducted 45,000 calls and SMS tests. Ookla speed tests numbered 0.13 million.

Operators received rankings from 1st to 4th position. Rankings depended on mobile network coverage, mobile broadband, voice, and SMS services.

The survey included tests for voice and mobile broadband. This involved data, latency, and web browsing tests. It also assessed SMS services.

PTA conducted the survey in 16 cities. These cities spanned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. The survey period was from January 1 to March 31.

PTA selected survey routes to cover the most populous areas.

PTA recorded 3G signal strength. This happened when networks switched to 3G. They used mobile handsets in auto-detect mode.

PTA made 20,485 call attempts. Out of these, 339 calls failed. They made 20,146 successful calls. Among these, 143 calls dropped before two minutes.

The rest, 20,003 calls, lasted the full two minutes.

They attempted to send 20,433 SMS. A-Party successfully sent 20,372 SMS. B-Party successfully received 20,203 SMS. They measured two SMS KPIs.

These were Success Rate and Delivery Time. Operators partially met these KPIs.
