The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued precautionary steps to prevent cellular device RF exposure.
PTA declared in a public notification that it has implemented a ‘Type Approvals’ process in conformity with best worldwide practices.
In theory, the Type Approvals procedure stipulates that all devices are reviewed for compliance with international manufacturing standards, including health and safety norms. This ensures that all PTA Type Approved devices adhere to the prescribed power restrictions for radio frequency usage in accordance with international standards.
PTA has declared that it is devoted to the health and well-being of Pakistani cellular device users, adding that research suggests that cellular devices do not represent a direct health risk to consumers.
However, PTA noted that precautions may be made to prevent radiofrequency exposure from devices, such as rationing the amount of time spent using a wireless device and, if possible, using a speakerphone, handsfree, or ear-pods to limit exposure.
PTA officials were asked by a parliamentary commission if the installation of cell phone towers had any negative consequences on human health. Officials from the PTA told the committee that cell phone towers had no negative health effects.
