PM announces to switch 100,000 tubewells to solar energy

According to State Radio, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a project to convert 100,000 agricultural tubewells to solar power across the country. At the Islamabad launch event, the prime minister proclaimed that agriculture is a key driver of economic growth in Pakistan.

The premier has stated that in order to advance the agricultural sector, it is necessary to provide farmers with access to reliable electricity, affordable fertilizer, and high-quality seeds. Sharif emphasized the importance of affordable electricity for all areas of the economy, from agriculture to manufacturing. He believes solar energy has the potential to significantly reduce electricity costs.

PM says tubewell will have great impact

He predicted that the polarization of tubewells would have a profound impact on agriculture in the country. Bashir Cheema, minister for national food security, also spoke at the event, noting the significance of initiatives like solarizing tubewells in easing the plight of farmers.

In this project, the federal government will work with the province governments to solarize 100,000 tubewells within three years. Zafar Hussain is the federal secretary for national food security.
