The Government of Sindh has taken the initiative to introduce electric taxi services for Karachi residents and the pink-colored taxi service only specifically for female passengers, ensuring their safety and comfort. On Thursday, Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon announced a separate taxi service for women.
Pink E-Taxi Initiative
According to him, the project’s first phase will see the introduction of more than 200 electric taxis, 50 of which will be designated as pink taxis for women. This action aims to give women in the city access to practical and dependable transit options.
“A modern, affordable and environment-friendly electric taxi service will be launched in Karachi and extended to other major cities of the province,” he said.
The government has agreed to improve the public bus service by introducing 500 new buses, valued at Rs. 25 billion, in addition to the electric taxi service.
The deployment of these buses along different routes in Karachi has been ordered, improving accessibility for the general public.
Additionally, according to Sharjeel Memon, the government of Sindh is aggressively seeking to purchase 20 more buses by June 15 in order to strengthen the region’s public transit network.
In addition, the government has mandated the start of a new route from Hattri to Kisana Mori in Hyderabad in an effort to expand the People’s Bus Service.
Within three days, the trial for this route will start, offering locals a handy means of transportation.
