In an unprecedented step, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja announced the start of a PSL-style tournament for junior players.
The Pakistan Junior League (PJL) aims to create a great platform for young cricketers in the country to polish their abilities while competing against elite junior cricketers from around the world.
The first edition of PJL is set to take place in October 2022, with PCB hoping to finalize the specifics in the next months.
The PCB has invited bids for the rights to title sponsorship, live streaming, category sponsorships, and team franchises.
Ramiz Raja reacted positively to the announcement of a one-of-a-kind tournament, saying, “Initiatives like the PJL are all about creating opportunities for cricketers, identifying the talent, nurturing them into world-class players and closing the gap between domestic and international cricket. A young apprentice can be molded into a genius with right environment, which we intend to create in this format.”
Ramiz went on to say that the PJL is a similar concept to the PSL in that city-based clubs will choose young cricketers from around the world.
The PCB Chairman went on to say that the PJL will help and improve the skills of young cricketers, adding that the effort is in accordance with the PCB’s recently established PCB Junior Pathways Program.
