Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has established itself as the indisputable champion of economy cars over the years. Despite recent sales and manufacturing slowdowns, Suzuki remains the largest carmaker by market share. The manufacturer has strengthened its position by surpassing a new production milestone.

According to autojournal.pk, which cites an official dealership update, Suzuki has produced 2.5 million cars in Pakistan over the past 40 years.

According to it, the output statistic solely includes four-wheelers. Suzuki’s economy automobiles, particularly the Mehran before 2019 and the Alto after then, have been critical to the company’s success. Other popular names in the company’s roster include the Cultus, Bolan, Wagon R, and others.

Suzuki has seen a significant drop in production and sales in recent months. The company’s sales in February were less than 1,000 units.

The previous month, the company sold only 44 Alto units, which had a negative impact on overall sales. With the current situation of the economy, the outlook for the automobile sector appears dismal.

PSMC has also announced that it will extend its motorcycle factory’s manufacturing halt until April 15. Furthermore, the corporation will suspend operations from April 07, 2023 until April 14, 2023.

The corporation has stated that a lack of raw materials is the primary cause of this lengthy outage. Import restrictions continue to wreak havoc on the auto industry, forcing some companies to close their doors.

“Due to shortage of inventory level… the management of the company has decided to extend shutdown period of its motorcycle plant till April 15, 2023,” Pak Suzuki informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) of the news in a notice.

It further said, “The automobile plant will also observe shutdown on April 07, 2023, & April 14, 2023, due to shortage of inventory level.”
