Pakistan’s already troubled auto industry is still suffering as a result of the economic downturn, which has forced automakers to cut production due to low inventories.
Only 88,620 units were sold from July to April 23. This is a significant decrease from the 191,238 cars sold the previous year, according to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), which claims that car sales have dropped by 53.7% when compared to the same period last year.
Dropping Car Sales Figures
Nobody is in the dark about the state of Pakistan’s auto industry. Production cuts and excessive price increases, particularly in the last six months, have had a significant impact. Companies then raised prices twice a month, making it nearly impossible for customers to purchase a car.

July-Apr ’21-22 | July-Apr ’22-23 | Difference | |
| Buses | 512 | 573 | 11.90% | |
| Cars | 191,238 | 88,620 | -53.70% | |
| Trucks | 4,911 | 2,961 | -39.70% |
The results of these measures are clearly visible in the PAMA report numbers.
The plummeting sales figures tell the tragic story of our country’s rising inflation, difficulty obtaining raw materials, and imposition of regulatory duties on automobiles, all of which contributed to the near-death of our automobile industry.
These figures also demonstrate how the economic downturn has impacted customer confidence and spending power, painting a bleak picture for Pakistan’s auto industry.
The sharp drop in auto sales affects the entire economy, including consumers and manufacturers.
The only industry that has seen an increase in sales is the bus industry. The improvement is largely due to the numerous metro projects that have begun across the country.
On the contrary, trucks were sold in 39.7% fewer units than the previous year.
While the sector struggles with these issues, stakeholders must consider new strategies to reenergize the market and reignite customer demand.
If immediate steps are not taken to revitalize the auto industry, it will be plagued by inflation and deficiency indefinitely.
