Pakistan has achieved a monumental milestone in its space exploration journey by selecting Muhammad Zeeshan Ali and Khurram Daud as candidates for China’s manned space programme. Following a rigorous three-stage selection process conducted by SUPARCO and the Astronaut Centre of China (ACC), these individuals were chosen from a competitive pool of professionals. This marks the first time Pakistani citizens are being formally integrated into a high-level international human spaceflight mission.

Advanced Training in China

Both selected candidates are scheduled to travel to China to undergo intensive training at the Astronaut Centre of China. The training will prepare them for the extreme conditions of space, covering physical endurance, spacecraft operations, and emergency protocols. This collaborative training phase is a testament to the deep-rooted scientific partnership between Pakistan and China, aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s indigenous space capabilities.

Historic Visit to Tiangong Space Station

Upon completion of the training, one of the two candidates will be selected to join a future mission as a Payload Specialist. This individual will make history by becoming the first-ever foreign astronaut to visit China’s Tiangong Space Station. This mission is not just a flight but a symbol of international cooperation, placing Pakistan among the elite group of nations with presence in Earth’s orbit.

Scientific Research and Experiments

The Pakistani astronaut will be responsible for conducting a series of scientific experiments while aboard the space station. These research activities will focus on microgravity, biotechnology, and fluid physics, which are essential for industrial and medical advancements back home. The data gathered from these experiments will provide Pakistani scientists with invaluable insights into how various materials and biological systems react in space.

Strengthening International Cooperation

The partnership with the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) reinforces the “all-weather” friendship between the two nations through the lens of science and technology. This collaboration is a harbinger of future deep-space exploration projects and positions Pakistan as a key player in regional space activities. The success of this mission will undoubtedly elevate Pakistan’s global standing in the field of modern science.
