The Special Olympics World Games are now being held in Berlin, and on Tuesday, Pakistan brought home four medals.
Saifullah Solangi, a Pakistani powerlifter, took home two first-place medals. He squatted 90 kilograms and deadlifted 115 kg, respectively, to win both gold medals.
With a total weight of 245 kg, Solangi won silver in the combined competition. In addition, he took third place in the 40-kilogram bench press.
Solangi finished with a gold, silver, and bronze in the powerlifting competition at the Special Olympics World Games.
Pakistan’s Special Olympic athletes have gotten off to a good start.
Samina Bibi and Mohammad Bashar, both of Pakistan, advanced to the finals of the 50-meter dash at the Olympia Stadium. Both Ammara Brahim and Abdul Haseeb advanced to the finals of their respective events.
The 200-meter runner Fiza Abbasi, the 400-meter runner Man Bibi, and the 1500-meter runner Mirwaiz all advanced to the semifinals. Umair Kayani advanced to the final four in the shot put, and Muhammad Luqman and Manahil made it to the quarterfinals in the 100m.
A team from Pakistan advanced to the final of the 4400 mixed relay at the ongoing Special Olympics World Games in Berlin by finishing third in their semi-final heat.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent his best wishes to the 87 members of the country’s delegation of athletes with disabilities who would be competing in the from June 17-25 in Germany. The prime minister wrote on Twitter, “I am confident that our special and privileged athletes will use the mega opportunity to bring laurels to the motherland through their talent and determination.” “Now is the time to reap the fruit of hard work they put in while preparing for 11 games,” he continued.
There will be more than 3,000 trainers and 20,000 helpers for the competitors.
