Pakistan Oil and Gas Reserves: How Many Days of Supply Remain?

Pakistan Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that the country currently has only 28 days of petroleum product stock remaining, covering petrol, diesel, and kerosene. This highlights that any delays in imports or domestic production could lead to short-term fuel shortages if not managed carefully.

Status of Oil Reserves

The minister also mentioned that Pakistan has 10 days’ worth of crude oil reserves in storage. These reserves are crucial for refineries, power plants, and industrial operations. If imports or production are disrupted, these reserves would only last for about 10 days, emphasizing the need for careful planning.

LPG and LNG Supplies

According to the Finance Minister, LPG and LNG supplies are available for approximately 15 days based on current consumption. These fuels are mainly used for cooking and industrial energy needs. Timely imports and an uninterrupted supply chain are essential to avoid any shortages.

No Immediate Fuel Shortage

Muhammad Aurangzeb clarified that there is no immediate fuel shortage in the country. The numbers he shared reflect current stock levels and are meant to inform the public and encourage precautionary measures, not to indicate a crisis. The government is actively monitoring the situation.

Factors Affecting Energy Supply

The Finance Minister highlighted that global energy market fluctuations and geopolitical tensions could affect Pakistan’s energy supplies. Any delays in fuel imports or currency shortages could impact the availability of petroleum products, LPG, and LNG. These factors make it necessary to plan ahead and maintain reserves.

Government Measures and Recommendations

Minister Aurangzeb urged citizens to conserve fuel and gas and avoid unnecessary wastage. The government is also working to ensure timely imports and explore alternative sourcing options to maintain energy security. These measures aim to prevent short-term shortages and protect the country’s energy stability.
