Today (Monday) is a national day of sorrow in Pakistan due to the tragic incident last week when a migrant boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea near the Peloponnese region, killing hundreds of people on board.
The day of mourning has been declared nationwide by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in response to the tragic tragedy involving the capsized boat.
The most recent information provided on Saturday by the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that 12 Pakistanis had been located among the shipwreck survivors.
Estimated 400 to 700 Are Said to Have Come From Pakistan
Estimates range from 400 to over 700, but hundreds of individuals, primarily from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), are said to have come from Pakistan.
According to the most recent media reports, all migrants—aside from 104—survived the shipwreck and were taken to Kalamata, Greece.
The national flag was flown at half-mast in honour of the mourning day, and special prayers were said for the departed.
While the nation mourns the tragic events, netizens at home and abroad criticize the Greek government for failing to act quickly or take any steps to prevent such a calamity.
On social media, claims that the migrants were “deliberately not rescued” have been making the rounds, alleging victims. Additionally, there have been complaints of “discrimination” against Pakistanis who were confined below deck during the horrific voyage.
