Following a number of player injuries ahead to the World Cup, which is due to begin on October 5, 2023, Pakistan announced significant roster changes.

As expected, the new team is a slightly tweaked version of the Asia Cup team. Rumor has it that the selection committee, captain, and head coach decided on the new World Cup team.

Despite the possibility of adding spinner Abrar Ahmed to the World Cup team, the selection committee allegedly chose not to revise the squad announced for the Asia Cup.

Pakistan To Finalize Its ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 Squad Soon

Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq will meet with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf in a few days to finalize the team, and the PCB head will give his approval for the names.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to disclose the World Cup lineup the following week, as officials analyze the availability of players injured during the recent Asia Cup.

Naseem Shah’s Injury

The potential withdrawal of key bowler Naseem Shah from the World Cup due to a shoulder injury handed a blow to Team Green, but the PCB has yet to make any official announcements following his exclusion.

Babar Azam expressed optimism after the final Asia Cup match that the 20-year-old fast bowler would make a comeback in the event’s second phase.

Agha Salman is recovering from a facial wound, while Imam ul Haq, the tournament’s opener, has a back problem as well. Haris Rauf, the tournament’s second main participant, is expected to be fit.

Pakistan’s World Cup 2023 series will go off on October 6 against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
