Pakistan and China Sign Key IT & Emerging Tech MoUs at B2B Conference

Pakistan and China have taken another major step toward deepening bilateral relations in the field of technology and innovation. During her official visit to China, Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja oversaw the signing of several key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements were finalized at the second Pakistan-China B2B conference, designed to encourage collaboration, investment, and future growth in emerging technologies and digital cooperation between the two nations.

Focus on Emerging Technologies and Digital Growth

The MoUs reflect Pakistan’s increasing commitment to advancing emerging technologies and fostering digital transformation in partnership with China. They cover wide-ranging areas, including government-to-government cooperation, advanced fiberisation projects, skill development for youth, capacity building, and the creation of modern digital infrastructure such as data centers. The conference highlighted Pakistan’s ambitions to modernize its IT ecosystem while strengthening innovation through strong collaborations with leading Chinese companies.

Government-to-Government Collaborations

One of the most significant aspects of the agreements was the government-to-government (G2G) collaboration between Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecom and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This agreement aims to promote joint initiatives in emerging technologies, policy sharing, and research cooperation. Such strategic alliances are vital to ensure Pakistan benefits from Chinese expertise, while also positioning itself as a strong regional player in the rapidly evolving digital world.

Expanding Digital Infrastructure Through Partnerships

Partnerships with major Chinese corporations are set to boost Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. Huawei Technologies signed an agreement with NTC Pakistan to enhance fiberisation and government connectivity. Similarly, ZTE partnered with SKY47 for the establishment of modern data centers. These projects are expected to improve nationwide internet services, provide secure platforms for government operations, and create a strong foundation for future technological expansion in Pakistan’s IT ecosystem.

Empowering Youth Through Skills and Training

Skill development was a central theme in the signed MoUs. The Ministry of IT and Telecom reached an agreement with ZTE to deliver training programs tailored for Pakistani youth. These initiatives will provide hands-on expertise in emerging technologies, ensuring the next generation of professionals can contribute to the local and global digital economy. Such investments in human capital aim to strengthen Pakistan’s workforce and promote long-term economic sustainability.
