According to channel, approximately 2,365 Pakistani government officials hold dual nationality or have renounced their Pakistani citizenship.
The report added that the government officials with dual citizenship comprise of BS-17 to BS-22 officers. Over half of them chose to conceal this information. Local authorities have launched investigations in response to the revelation, according to the report.
The Establishment Division, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Cabinet Division have all collected these officials’ records.
The investigation revealed that many officers with dual nationality hold important positions in government departments, ministries, and even sensitive institutions.
Following the revelation, relevant authorities have started an investigation against the government officials, particularly those in important positions.
Initially, the investigation focused on 300,000 public employees, with records for an additional 400,000 government personnel being compiled in subsequent phases.
It is important to note that the appointment of dual nationality holders to key positions violates the Supreme Court’s order prohibiting the appointment of civil servants with dual nationality.
According to the investigation, 1,116 of the identified officials are either foreign or dual citizens. Furthermore, 1,249 officials’ spouses hold foreign or dual nationality.
Only 837 government officials admitted to having dual citizenship. Similarly, approximately 796 spouses of these officers admitted to having dual nationality.
Furthermore, 423 spouses of government officials have chosen to conceal their dual or foreign citizenship status. The investigation revealed that only 31 of them had provided proof of their foreign nationality.
The investigation also discovered that 261 government officers intentionally concealed their dual citizenship status.
Furthermore, twelve foreign nationals were discovered working in key agencies such as the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), police, and foreign services, six of whom concealed their citizenship status.
