The OnePlus 12 and Ace 3 were launched in China by the end of 2023, and they have now made their global debut as the OnePlus 12 and 12R, respectively, at a launch event in New Delhi, India.
International Versions
The international versions of these phones are nearly identical, with the exception of the software. The Chinese models feature Oppo’s ColorOS UI on top, whereas the global models use the classic Oxygen OS, which has been drastically altered to match ColorOS.
OnePlus 12
These phones boast the largest vapour chamber to date, measuring 9,140 mm². Its double-sided design keeps both the screen and the back cool, making it ideal for gaming. OnePlus refers to it as the Dual Cryo-velocity VC Cooling System.
Latest Features
The OnePlus 12 features the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This powerhouse has a 30% faster CPU and a 25% faster GPU than its predecessor, the Generation 2.
Memory configurations include up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage (the 24 GB and 1TB variants appear to be reserved for the Chinese market).
OnePlus 12 Features
At the forefront, the OnePlus 12 features a cutting-edge 6.82-inch LTPO 4.0 AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels.
This panel has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, which provides silky-smooth visuals.
What’s even more impressive is its exceptional brightness capabilities, reaching up to 4,500 nits in localised areas and 1,600 nits over the entire screen.
The camera setup includes a 50MP LYT-808 main sensor, which is a 1/1.4-inch imager with OIS.
The second camera is a 64MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, which uses the OmniVision OV64B 1/2.0-inch sensor.
The third camera is a 48MP ultrawide sized at 1/2.0-inch, while the selfie camera is a 32MP shooter.
The battery capacity is 5,400 mAh, and it supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging to charge your peripherals. The American OnePlus 12 will only support 80W wired charging.
The OnePlus 12 starts at $799 in the international market and comes in the same colours as the Chinese model: Flowy Emerald (the green one) and Silky Black.
OnePlus 12R
This is the first time the OnePlus 12R has left the Indian market, which is a positive development for fans because it offers many of the same features at a lower price.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which will be available in 2023, powers the OnePlus 12R. With configurations ranging from 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM to 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, this phone is designed to meet the needs of power users.
It’s worth noting that the OnePlus 12R uses the same dual VC (9,140mm2) chamber as the 12, ensuring excellent thermal performance.
