OGDCL Starts Production from Baragzai X-1 Well in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Gas

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has officially commenced production from the Baragzai X-1 well located in the Nashpa Exploration License area. This development marks an important addition to Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas output.

Location of the Well

The Baragzai X-1 well is situated in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the Nashpa Block. This region is known for its hydrocarbon potential, where multiple exploration and development activities have been carried out over the years.

Earlier Discovery in March 2026

OGDCL had earlier announced a hydrocarbon discovery from this well in March 2026. The discovery was made in the Lockhart Limestone formation, confirming the presence of oil and gas reserves in the area.

Transition from Discovery to Production

Following successful drilling operations, testing, and development work, the well has now been brought into production. This transition from exploration to production is a standard process in the upstream oil and gas sector after confirming viable reserves.

Contribution to Domestic Energy Supply

The start of production from Baragzai X-1 is expected to contribute to Pakistan’s indigenous oil and gas supply. Such developments help improve local energy availability and support efforts to reduce reliance on imported hydrocarbons.

OGDCL Ongoing Exploration Strategy

OGDCL continues to focus on exploration and development activities across various regions of Pakistan. The company aims to enhance domestic production by identifying new reserves and optimizing existing fields to meet the country’s growing energy demand.
