Syed Amin ul Haq, the Federal Minister for Information and Technology, launched the National Information Technology Board’s (NITB) first-ever data center on Tuesday.
The ‘Staging Environment’ data center cost Rs. 330 million to construct. It consists of eight data servers with a 500-terabyte storage capacity.
“Under this initiative, the NITB will help establish secure testing incubation, where testing of government institutions’ websites, mobile applications, and web portals will be possible,” the minister said.
The IT Minister stated during the event that it was built to meet cyber security needs.
Previously, the National Technology Council (NTC) or a third party would test applications and web portals. According to him, the NITB center has eliminated the potential of data leaks or hacking.
Furthermore he added, “Supported by state-of-the-art technology and attention to the details, NITB offers highly secure and effective solutions that can fulfill data security needs of ministries.
The data center services guarantee secure physical and technical infrastructure which protects the most sensitive and critical data from every type of internal and external security threats.”
Furthermore, it enables ministries to recover programs and data in the aftermath of various accidents, as well as to resurrect lost data utilizing robust tools and technologies, he noted.
