Secondary school teachers who want to live and work in New Zealand’s breathtaking landscapes now have an exciting opportunity to make that dream come true!
To address workforce shortages, the New Zealand government has launched a new initiative that allows overseas secondary school teachers to apply for residency from abroad without requiring prior work experience in the country.
This move is a welcome relief for many educators around the world, particularly those specialising in subjects such as Science, Technology, and Mathematics, where shortages have been particularly severe.
Under the new Straight to Residence pathway, qualified overseas secondary school teachers can accelerate their path to residency by skipping the traditional requirement of gaining work experience in New Zealand first.
How to apply for New Zealand residency:
- Overseas teachers must receive a job offer from a New Zealand-based accredited employer.
- Applicants are not required to have spent the previous two years working in the country.
This streamlined process not only provides greater certainty, but it also prioritises the needs of the education sector, ensuring that schools have access to the talent needed to provide quality education to students across the country.
