New ban on gatherings as section 144 imposed in Islamabad

For the next two months, all public processions, rallies, and protests have been banned by the capital’s administration. The capital was placed under Section 144 after a notification was issued by the deputy commissioner Islamabad. He further said that any public demonstrations and processions within the city limits of Islamabad will be prohibited.

According to the PRO, the suspension will last for two months, and anyone who break it will face consequences.

The ban is imposed due to security concerns

The order states, “Some elements of society are planning to organise unlawful assemblies, including Majalis and processions, within the jurisdiction of Islamabad, which can disrupt public place and tranquilly.” Controlling illicit acts of this nature that endanger public peace is essential in light of the existing state of law and order and security.

A clause was inserted to the order that said, “I, Additional District Magistrate Islamabad do hereby ban all kinds of gathering of five or more persons, processions, rallies, and demonstrations at any public place within Islamabad, including Red Zone.” The directive is to take effect immediately.
