The National Database and Registration Authority NADRA has officially launched Nishan Pakistan, which is a unified digital platform. The aim is to modernize the identity verification services in the country. The launch was intended to improve the manner in which the government agencies and the regulated private organisations cater to the verified identity of their citizens.
Purpose of the New System
For instance, in Pakistan, the process of verification regarding the identity of parties used to follow a non-integrated process involving both manual and semi digital methods. Nishan Pakistan has specifically addressed this noted issue by utilizing a single digital portal for the entire process.
Who Is the Target Audience?
The new system enables the digital onboarding, subscription, and access to NADRA identity verification services by all regulated organizations, including banks, microfinance institutions, nonbank financial institutions (NBFIs) telecommunication companies, and government departments. This helps ensure that identity checks are consistently secure and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Advanced Verification Features
Nishan-e-Pakistan provides multi-biometric verification APIs, including face and fingerprint matching, amongst other demographic verification tools such as Verisys, proof of life services, and Single Sign On capabilities to ensure secure access. This makes the process of verification steadfast, difficult to counterfeit, and less prone to delays.

According to officials, the platform will particularly be advantageous in public sector social welfare programs, where accurate identity verification is essential. It was initiated under the Government of Pakistan Digital Economy Enhancement Project DEEP and the revised regulations of the NADRA.
