Today, the National Assembly praised Olympic record-holder Arshad Nadeem. They passed a resolution to award him the highest civil honor. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar moved the resolution. He congratulated Arshad and urged the government to promote sports. “The nation is proud of Arshad’s victory,” said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Bilawal praised Arshad’s hard work. He said it showed the potential of Pakistan’s youth. “With support, our youth can win Olympics and World Cups,” Bilawal said. He mentioned Karachi’s Lyari area. He said kids there have talent to win FIFA games. Bilawal also recalled meeting girls in Peshawar. They had black belts in Taekwondo and won medals for Pakistan.
Bilawal expressed disappointment that neither the federal nor provincial governments supported talented people. He urged the federal sports minister to talk with provincial counterparts. He suggested creating an endowment fund for each province.
Opposition Leader Omar Ayub called for a grand welcome for Arshad. Khawaja Asif noted Pakistan’s long wait for an Olympic gold medal. Mustafa Kamal of MQM-P also congratulated Arshad. He lamented the lack of support for local talent.
Senate Plans Dinner to Honor Arshad Nadeem’s Gold Medal
In the Senate, Deputy Chairman Syed Ali Nasar said they would arrange a dinner for Arshad. He also said the country’s pride would get prizes. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar promised the government’s support for sports. He praised Arshad’s gold medal win and called it an inspiration for youth.
Arshad’s win is a huge moment for Pakistan. It is the country’s first gold medal outside of hockey. Pakistan last won an Olympic gold in 1984. Arshad’s victory is the first individual gold for Pakistan at a Summer Games. Before this, only two Pakistani athletes had won individual medals. Mohammad Bashir won wrestling bronze in 1960. Hussain Shah won boxing bronze in 1988.
Arshad expressed his joy at winning the gold. He thanked Allah and his supporters. He promised to perform even better next time. Arshad thanked Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa and his coach Salman Butt. He called his gold medal an “Independence Day gift for the country.”

Arshad also shared his feelings during the event. “I felt it could be an Olympic record,” he said.
India’s Chopra won the silver medal. He was not happy with his performance. He fouled five attempts and threw 89.45m. Chopra’s huge following in India has raised the profile of athletics. Grenada’s Anderson Peters won bronze with 88.54m. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch finished fourth.
