Elon Musk’s platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, has added a new feature that allows paying members to conceal their blue verification check marks.

Musk changed the criteria for receiving the blue tick, now requiring a monthly fee rather than meeting specific qualifications.
Users who pay $8 per month for X Blue can now hide their check marks on their profiles and posts. The check mark may still appear in certain areas, and certain features may reveal the user’s active subscription status.
The platform came under fire for changing the verification process, which was used to verify a user’s authenticity, and giving it to public figures, media personalities, and politicians.
Since taking over the platform last year, Musk has made numerous changes to improve the verification process and the subscription service. Despite the new option to hide the blue check mark, it has sparked debate.
Some users see it as a way to maintain privacy and avoid ridicule for paying for the verification, while others argue that it reduces the value and transparency of the badge on the platform.
Lili Reinhart, an actress and social media influencer, expressed her displeasure with the change, claiming that the blue check mark used to have meaning but now feels diluted.
Similarly, renowned author Stephen King criticized the decision, implying that verification used to be important but now appears to be a luxury for those who can afford it.
