The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday that the Moharram crescent had not been sighted in the country, so the first of Muharram will fall on Thursday, July 20.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Committee, announced that the Youm-e-Ashura will be observed on July 29 (Saturday).

Representatives from the Central and Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) officials, the Ministries of Science and Technology, and Religious Affairs and Harmony all attended the moon sighting committee meeting.

Separately, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared several districts in the province sensitive during the Moharram processions. Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) were advised to make adequate security arrangements for the event.

The districts include Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kurram, Orakzai, and Tank, according to the home department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, four thousand five hundred places of worship in these eleven districts of the province were designated as the most sensitive during Muharram.

During the holy month of Muharram, the home department decided to deploy police, FC, and Frontier Corps to perform security duties at sensitive and most sensitive places of worship.
