The fuel shortage caused by the country’s ongoing financial crisis continues to impede flight operations of PIA, despite the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) demand to sell up loss-making state-owned firms.

27 PIA Flights Cancelled Today

On Monday, another 27 flights were forced to be canceled, continuing a current pattern that began this month but became more obvious last week when the national carrier failed to pay dues to Pakistan State Oil (PSO), another profitable SOE that supplies jets to the airline.

Seven of the cancelled flights included the Karachi airport, both inbound and outbound, on the routes to Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, and Peshawar.

Other Flights Cancellation

Meanwhile, six more flights from Karachi to Multan, Islamabad, and Dubai will be canceled.

Two flights from Multan to Saudi Arabia, including one to Jeddah, have been canceled.

In Lahore, four flights were canceled at the international airport. It included routes from Lahore to Sharjah, Dubai, and Jeddah to Lahore.

Cancellation of International Flights

Meanwhile, seven PIA flights from Islamabad to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Damam, Madina, Jeddah, and Quetta are on the schedule, as is a Peshawar-Dubai flight.

The latest disruption in operations comes as a PIA spokesperson stated that 60 flights were scheduled for the day, 42 international and 18 domestic. He went on to say that international flights were a top priority for the airline.
