In the Sukkur division, where fiber-optic connections were primarily damaged by heavy gear used to drain water from the area, it is claimed that recurrent internet disruptions are primarily caused by flood relief activities.

After becoming aware of the frequent internet disruptions, the Ministry also requested technical reports from Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the telecom regulator. According to PTA, the trenches that were dug in various locations to channel excess water were the real reason of these internet outages, not any criminal activity or sabotage.
The most significant damage was reportedly inflicted in tehsil Ranipur of Khairpur district, while the most recent interruptions earlier this week were reportedly brought on by several cuts in the districts of Ghotki, Khairpur, and Sukkur.
The Minister for IT and Telecom, Syed Aminul Haque, stated that the situation was grave and that we could anticipate such events in the future.
“Due to extensive flooding, most of the pathways of underground cables have been submerged, as relief workers or locals were trying to divert floodwater by digging trenches on roads and footpaths. The ministry has directed PTCL to declare an emergency so that repair work could be initiated when any such incident is reported in the system, while PTA is constantly monitoring the quality of service.”
