Due to a notable increase in customs values on almost all models of mobile phones imported into the country, it projects that the costs of popular mobile phone brands will increase in Pakistan.
As to knowledgeable sources, a recent ruling by the Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has resulted in a notable increase in customs values for 1,160 different types of popularly branded mobile phones.
Mobile Phones To Get More Expensive in Pakistan
Customs values have increased for Apple, Huawei, Infinix, ITEL, Lenovo, Meizu, Motorola, Nokia, OPPO, Samsung, Sony, Tecno, VIVO, XIAOMI, REALME, ONEPLUS, HONOR, TCL, ALCATEL, Sea Shark, X TELL, ZTE, and SHARP.
The ruling further stated that as depreciation factored into the tabulated values, used or refurbished cell phones imported by legitimate travelers will evaluate using the customs values supplied.
According to Section 81 of the Customs Act of 1969, clearance collectorates instructed to evaluate brands and models which imported in commercial quantities but not included in the enclosed annexure.
They advised to forward a reference to the Directorate for a final decision of their values.
Section 25A of the Customs Act of 1969
Previously, under Section 25A of the Customs Act of 1969, the values of mobile phones determined by Valuation Ruling No. 1732/2023.
The customs values set by the last Valuation Ruling, which was issued approximately nine months ago, were out of date with the global market.
In addition, some of the older models specified in the existing rule need to depreciate since they have reached the End of Life (EOL).
Consequently, in order to evaluate the worth of cell phones in accordance with Section 25A of the Customs Act of 1969, our directorate carried out an exercise.
Revised Custom Values For Cellphones
Since some of the mobile phone models mentioned in the Valuation Ruling are very old but have very high assessable customs values, the stakeholders requested that the values be revised to account for the aging of the models and that a reasonable minimal depreciation in the assessable value be extended accordingly.
Clearance data from the preceding 90 days gathered and looked over in order to achieve this goal.
After that, a market analysis conducted and evaluated in consideration of the Directorate’s Office.
In order to ascertain the actual cost of mobile phone devices, the directorate conducted a market analysis and looked at a number of markets.
The exercise conducted and the data/information that obtained have used to determine the values of the subject goods.
