According to research, about 15 million unused mobile phones are collecting dust in UK households, making them the most popular underused electrical goods that Brits are clinging onto rather than throwing away.
Over seven million DVD players, six million TVs, and even 4.6 million vintage VCR players are other high-tech goods that are in storage in British households.
In reality, 85 million pieces of outdated technology, including USB sticks, computers, iPods, headphones, and microwaves, are currently unused in American homes.
According to a survey of 2,000 adults, 39% of people had outdated technology in their homes, with almost a quarter (23%) still holding onto obsolete mobile phones, 16% storing outdated DVD players, and 13% hoarding outdated TVs.
One in ten people (9%), who were surveyed, admitted they just don’t know how to get rid of these objects. However, 11% still think they can be mended, and 17% are keeping them as spares in case their present item breaks.
Virgin Media O2, which launched the Time After Time e-waste fund for community groups and organizations to implement initiatives that reduce e-waste and promote circularity, teamed up with environmental charity Hubbub to commission the research.
