Miftah Ismail, the Finance Minister, denied speculations of a further increase in fuel prices on Tuesday.
In a tweet, the finance minister stated that he did not discuss fuel pricing during the pre-budget seminar. He believes that news networks that use these tickers are deceiving their audience.
In a tweet, the minister stated, “There will be no price hike today, and there is no summary or plan to raise prices.”
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, also turned to Twitter to deny claims of a price rise. There is no lack of petroleum products in the country, according to the minister.
Throughout the day, speculations circulated on social media that the government was planning to announce another large increase in fuel prices before midnight.
It is important to note that on Friday, the government raised the price of petroleum products by Rs. 30 per liter. The hike was unexpected, as the government had only days before chosen to leave petroleum product prices steady in order to “give maximum assistance to customers.”
Since May 27, the coalition government has raised the price of petroleum products by Rs60 per liter. Petrol costs Rs. 209.86, diesel costs Rs. 204.15, kerosene oil costs Rs. 181.94 and light diesel costs Rs. 178.31 at the moment.
