The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Friday that it has not yet received any directions from the Ministry of Interior about the restoration of internet services, despite the blockades having been in place for four days.

On May 9 (Tuesday), after Rangers arrested Khan from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) grounds on orders from the National Accountability Bureau, clashes between security forces and protesters broke out that left at least eight people dead. As a result, mobile internet services were shut down nationwide.

In Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, enraged PTI supporters attacked military and governmental structures with violence.

Internet Access Will Remain Suspended Until Further Notice, PTA

In order to regulate the situation by limiting the flow of bogus news, the Ministry of Interior directed the PTA to cease internet service.

Since then, access has also been restricted to popular social media websites including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

The telecommunications authorities announced today that nationwide mobile internet access will remain suspended until further notice.

However, it was noted that consumers could access broadband internet service.

The restoration of mobile internet access is anticipated to happen within the next 36 hours, according to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah earlier on Thursday.
