An international magazine reports that Apple is ramping up the M3 chip’s testing phase. An App Store programmer has discovered evidence that points to a version of this forthcoming platform with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and 36 GB of RAM.
The new chip, manufactured by TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, would emerge in Mac laptops sometime between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.
The new CPU will keep six high-performance cores in place, while the other six are optimised for low power consumption. This rise in core count is indicative of the shift from the M1 to the M2 generation, which is expected to spur consumer spending.
It’s important to remember that Apple’s Mac sales dropped by 31% last quarter, below industry forecasts by a wide margin.
Apple’s devices see continuous upgrades
The M3 Pro and M3 Max will have similar improvements to the M1 and M2 series. It has been speculated that the M3 Ultra will include 80 cores in its graphics processing unit, double the number of cores found in the M3 Max’s CPU.
Remember that none of these details have been confirmed officially, so treat this information with caution. The next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is when we can expect to learn more.
