Twenty or more persons tested positive for hepatitis C during a recent blood screening programme in the Rawalpindi region, and five people tested positive for hepatitis B.

Launched at the beginning of the month, the campaign’s objective is to detect and treat hepatitis illnesses, with the intention of expanding coverage to include 100,000 people.

Hepatitis screening on large scale

Blood screenings are being aggressively conducted by the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination and the Task Force for Global Health throughout four union councils. The initiative’s major goal is the early diagnosis of hepatitis B and C, two common diseases in Pakistan.

The District Health Authority’s chief executive officer, Dr. Ansar Ishaq, emphasised the significance of this effort in light of the increasing number of hepatitis patients. There were 1,254 people that took part in the blood screening programme.
