Launch of new COVID vaccine as Eris variant appears

In response to the increasing number of hospitalisations in the United States caused by the ‘Eris’ version of the Omicron coronavirus (COVID), a new Covid vaccination will be released the following month.

Professional medical facilities and pharmacies are preparing to administer the revised vaccine against the novel strain. Still, they’ll have to overcome vaccine fatigue, scepticism, and a general lack of care. It will be up to public health workers to persuade the public that COVID is still a threat.

COVID is evolving

According to studies conducted in the United States, vaccinated people are more likely to forego yearly booster doses due to the mistaken belief that their immunity has already been established. Pfizer and Moderna, two companies developing COVID-19 vaccines, have both lowered their autumn marketing goals, and Pfizer is reportedly considering layoffs.

A new strain of COVID-19, codenamed ‘Eris’ or ‘EG.5’, will appear in February 2023. Eris is a subvariant of the Omicron strain and has been designated by the WHO as a variant of interest. Despite a rise in reported cases around the world, the World Health Organisation (WHO) maintains that it does not constitute a serious threat to public health. It hasn’t produced more severe illnesses while being capable of evading immunity better. The subvariant is still being tracked on a global scale.
