According to official data, the telecom industry has created an estimated 200,000 jobs (direct and indirect) since the introduction of 3G/4G in Pakistan.

Documents stated that telecom providers began offering 3G and 4G services in Pakistan following the successful auction of spectrum in the 2,100 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands in June 2014.

Operators have increased the number of their 3G/4G networks and towers across Pakistan over the years, creating numerous direct and indirect job possibilities.

Jobs Created After 3G/4G Launch in Pakistan

Since the introduction of 3G/4G in Pakistan, the telecom industry is estimated to have created 200,000 jobs (direct and indirect), of which 5,780 were created directly by telecom companies.

The remaining 92,000 jobs were created indirectly, through the employment of mobile phone retailers, franchisees, tower manufacturers, tower installation companies, tower security personnel, subcontractors, and consulting/service firms.

Additionally, PTA has granted 30 authorizations to businesses that produce mobile devices, which has led to the creation of an estimated 50,000 new jobs.

The induced employment created in the economy by the widespread use of 3G/4G services in the nation, such as e-commerce, e-businesses, e-banking, Uber/Careem/Bykea services, freelancing, etc., is not included in the aforementioned employment figures, it should be emphasized.

The records also stated that the PTA’s information was the only source used to calculate employment predictions. However, there are already 128 million broadband customers in Pakistan and 44,200 workers working for all of the country’s telecom providers.

In response to the dramatic advancements in technology, the government took the following actions: The two parts of technology are telecom and IT services. The PTA is dealing with Telecom Services and related Telecom Systems, one of the components.

According to federal policy directives and MOIT&T regulations, the PTA has taken the following actions in this regard:

(1) Renewal of cellular licenses of Jazz, Ufone and Telenor with the following clauses to improve the quality of services and enhance coverage

(2) Mandatory Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) as well as FTTH connections for licensed operators to enhance fiberization in the country

(3) Introduction of 4G services in AJ&K and GB

(4) Issuing of rolling spectrum strategy, for better visibility of spectrum policies of the government

(5) Ease of doing business by simplifying the telecom licensing process, in various categories

(6) Right of Way Policy issued by federal government

(7) New Cable System —PEACE – Addl 16 Tbps international capacity

(8) Spectrum Auction —Pakistan – 9 MHz, AJ&K and GB – 28.6 MHz;(9) Framework for 5G Roadmap and Trials.

All businesses completed their 5G trials satisfactorily.

The 9th of September 2021 saw the promulgation of the Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service Regulations, 2021. The PTA was able to standardize the definition and measurement processes for service quality parameters in accordance with the most recent ITU standards thanks to this rule.

To meet the rising consumer demand, the Mobile Broadband Speed threshold values have been improved. In addition, these Regulations include the most recent ETSI technique of 10 measurement, known as the Network Performance Score (NPS).
