Lahore may outlaw vehicles and bicycles on MM Alam Road

One of Lahore’s busiest public areas is MM Alam Road. The route is always congested with hundreds of cars due to the presence of several restaurants and commercial centers. It is hence prone to severe traffic bottlenecks.

The solution put out by Lahore City Traffic Police (CTP) is to turn MM Alam Road into a pedestrian promenade. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Assad Malhi and other top officials had a discussion on the project’s operational elements when they were at MM Alam Road.

According to CTO, the department is now determining if turning MM Alam Road into a promenade or one-way roadway is feasible. He clarified:

“We have proposed to open it for traffic from Hussain Chowk towards Mini Market while closing it from Mini Market towards Hussain Chowk.”

According to CTO, the goal is for MM Alam Road to someday be completely car-free. He continued by saying that this modification will eventually end the problem of traffic jams during peak hours.

The CTO noted that people will park in the spots in front of plazas and walk the remaining distance to their destination. He continued: As citizens, we also need to alter our behaviour since parking the automobile in front of the store where we wish to purchase is not required.
